Hump Magnetic Separation Use

Our customer specializes in the production of wood chips and wood pellets. However, during the wood shredding process, the presence of metal particles has become a significant issue, posing a potential risk of damage to the production equipment. In this case, a Hump magnetic separation is very suitable

Problem

The customer uses a single-shaft shredder to process the wood, which includes various types such as solid wood, veneers, and particleboard. Although the heavy-duty shredder can successfully shred the ferrous particles along with the wood, the problem arises in the subsequent production steps. Specifically, when the shredded wood enters the pellet press, it is pressed under high pressure into pellets. However, it is at this stage (the pellet forming process) that the mold (i.e., the pellet matrix) is often damaged by the presence of metal contaminants, leading to unnecessary repair costs or even the need to replace the damaged matrix.

Hump Magnetic Separation To Solution

To address this issue, we decided to install chute magnets in the 200mm pipeline where the wood is conveyed to the pellet press. This location was chosen as the most suitable spot for the installation of the magnets.

Chute magnets are specially designed to remove larger ferrous particles from flow-resistant materials such as wood chips. These separators were installed directly in the pipeline, coming into direct contact with the processed material.

To maximize the purity of the final product and provide the best protection for downstream production equipment, we worked with the customer to install several chute magnets in series within the pipeline. The installation locations of the separators were carefully planned to ensure that operators could easily access and clean them. Cleaning the separators has become a standard part of the operator’s routine, which is why we achieve such excellent separation results.

Benefits of Our Solution for the Client

  • Pellet Press Protection: The chute magnets effectively separate large ferrous objects and iron dust, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the pellet matrix during the pelletizing process.
  • Prevention of Costly Repairs: By eliminating metal contamination, our solution has reduced equipment repair costs and improved production efficiency.
  • Constant Production: Thanks to the installation of chute magnets, the company is able to maintain continuous production without interruptions caused by equipment damage.

Advantages of Hump Magnetic Separation

  • Efficient Separation: Capable of separating ferrous particles as small as 0.5 mm.
  • Customization Options: Available in ferrite and neodymium versions, as well as custom-made separators to meet specific customer requirements.
  • Suitable for Abrasive Materials: Particularly effective for handling abrasive and flow-resistant materials.
  • High Magnetic Strength: Magnetic strength of up to 7500 Gauss on the stainless steel protective cover.
  • High Processing Capacity: Suitable for systems handling large volumes of material, with a processing capacity of up to 150 m³/h.

Conclusion

This solution provides strong protection for the customer’s pellet press, improves production efficiency, ensures the long-term use of equipment, and ultimately reduces downtime and repair costs.
