Initial Situation

Our customer has a long history of over several decades in the resin and adhesive manufacturing industry, with products including hard resins, soft resins, alkyd resins, and a wide variety of adhesives.

Challenge

When processing crude rosin resins, it is crucial to ensure the final product is free of ferrous contaminants.

For this reason, protecting the resin grinder from damage is particularly important for the customer. Ferromagnetic particles hidden in the raw materials can damage the grinder, and the repair costs and production downtime resulting from this are an unacceptable burden.

Therefore, the customer wanted us to effectively remove ferrous contaminants (especially larger particles) from the processed rosin resin to protect the grinder and reduce maintenance expenses.

Solution Strategy

The crude rosin resin is conveyed by a screw conveyor. Between the screw conveyor and the grinder, we strategically installed a chute-type magnetic separator equipped with high-performance neodymium magnets. These powerful magnets not only capture large ferrous objects to protect the subsequent grinding equipment, but also trap fine ferrous particles, ensuring the final product (i.e., the resin) is of the highest purity.

The reason for selecting a chute magnetic separator in a series layout is that traditional grid separators are not suitable for this type of material due to the risk of clogging the magnetic grid. Instead, we chose a separator where the magnets are located outside the material flow (avoiding the risk of clogging by the processed material). Additionally, the magnetic field strength generated by the magnetic plates (mounted inside the separator door) is strong enough to reliably capture even extremely fine ferromagnetic particles.

The customer highly praised our technical solution, noting its high separation efficiency and significant cost reductions, especially in terms of service costs resulting from production interruptions.

Advantages of Chute Magnet Application

  • Grinder Protection: The separator effectively captures ferrous particles, significantly reducing the risk of damage to the grinder.
  • Improved Product Quality: Resin free from iron contamination means a higher-quality product.
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs: The need for grinder repairs is minimized.
